Powerful earthquake hits Nepal

More than 1800 people were killed in earthquake which hit Nepal ‘s capital Kathmandu yesterday (April25, 2015) at 7.8 Richter scale.  Streets, Squares and houses in the city were turned into rubble, within minutes. Many temples and other heritage sites were grounded except for Pashupatinath Temple. At least 17 people were killed in Mt Everest where the quake had caused multiple avalanches. 30 out of 75 districts in Nepal were affected by quake. The quake struck at 11.56AM IST.  Last time the quake hit Nepal 81 years ago.

US government has announced an immediate assistance of $ 1 million to Nepal.

American disaster response teams are also on their way to Nepal.  India has already sent 260 of their relief personnel, medical teams and 20 tonnes of relief material to Kathmandu.
